Below is a list of recent commissions for dance and theater. For inquiries regarding a new commission, please contact DBR Music Productions. Othello DBR and Obie Award-winning Director Bob McGrath
along with distinguished actor Michael Anthony Williams conjure a hypnotic,
inky noir retelling of Shakespeare's classic Othello thats elegance
is surpassed only by its ferociousness. The austere and foreboding score
composed by DBR creates a haunting sonic world in which Bob McGrath's
trademark style of projections places Othello in a sexy and savage contemporary
landscape. Michael Anthony Williams portrayal of the doomed Moor explodes
with a brutality and passion that reverberates throughout the entire production.
Provocative, stirring, and sleek this epic tale leaves audiences jarred
yet moved by the lamentable fall of Othello. Premiered at Virginia Tech
in 2009. Resurrection In Resurrection, a play by Obie-Award
winning playwright and actor Daniel Beaty, directed by Oz Scott and scored
by DBR, five African-American men ranging in
age from 20 to 60 have their lives transformed by the extraordinary mind
and spirit of a 10-year-old boy. This joyous new work examines what it
means to be a black man in America today. Resurrection was premiered at
Hartford Stage (CT) and Arena Stage (DC) in 2008 and was also performed
at the Philadelphia Theatre Company (PA) in 2009. Chapel/Chapter Chapel/Chapter is a thought-provoking, evening-length, multimedia
dance theater work choreographed by Bill T. Jones, 2007 Tony Award winner
for Best Choreography (Spring Awakening), that asks penetrating questions
about morality in a world saturated by violence and despair. Jones, his
dancers and collaborators create an environment that fluctuates between
a sanctuary and a steely hall of justice. With original music composed
and arranged by DBR, Christopher Antonio William
Lancaster, Alicia Hall Moran and Lawrence “Lipbone” Redding,
Chapel/Chapter includes traditional renaissance music, folk music and
gospel music that create a moving, swirling soundtrack. Blind Date Blind Date, choreographed by Bill T. Jones, explores patriotism,
honor, sacrifice, and service to a cause larger than oneself-values all
but lost in our modern world. Jones's technically stunning 10-member company
performs in a sensory landscape of primary colors, video imagery, and
musical influences from around the world. DBR and his collaborators provide a sound score that serves a similar
purpose, ranging from Bach to Otis Redding to the Mexican national anthem.
Another Evening: I Bow Down In Another Evening: I Bow Down, Bill T. Jones reveals
how personal stories and historical events converge, in an examination
of the resilience of the human spirit in the face of disaster. The work
pushes the boundaries of modern dance through unconventional collaborations.
Featuring live music by DBR and the uncompromising
sound of the young Bronx-based hardcore band Regain The Heart Condemned,
Jones' company erupts from the stage like an unstoppable force of nature.
