Haitian-American composer/performer Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR) will participate in several special events at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark in advance of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra’s (NJSO) performance of DBR’s new symphonic work, Dancers, Dreamers and Presidents—a co-commission from the Sphinx Commissioning Consortium.
During the week of the program, DBR will conduct pre-performance chats and creative workshops for area elementary, high-school and college students in collaboration with the NJSO and NJPAC’s Alternate Routes and arts education programs.
Concert performances take place on Thursday, April 7, (1:30 p.m.), Friday, April 8, (8 p.m.) and Sunday, April 10, (3 p.m.) at NJPAC in Newark and Saturday, April 9, (8 p.m.) at the State Theatre in New Brunswick. Classical Conversations with DBR begin one hour before the performances on April 8, 9 and 10 and are free to all ticketholders.
