DBR Official Newsletter 2.25.09
I've had an extraordinary few weeks on tour, visiting with friends and family in Maine, Connecticut, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Thank you for making me and my band mates always feel at home. I wanted to give very special shout-out's to Dysfunctional Mayhem (Portland, Maine); Sarah, the actor (Storrs, Connecticut); Jason, the conductor (Louisville, Kentucky), and Stephanie, Will, Phil, Katie, Tony, and everyone at GPAC (Germantown, Tennessee).
I'm off to Hattiesburg, Mississippi with the SQ UNIT of DBR & THE MISSION, and then Oswego, New York to collaborate with the Oswego Community Youth Orchestra. We're looking forward to breaking bread and making music and conversation with all of you.
All love,
DBR

| People around the world are celebrating the bicentennial year of Charles Darwin and Abraham Lincoln, but not many are celebrating musically. DBR's latest work, Darwinís Meditation for the People of Lincoln, exploring an imagined dialogue between Darwin and Lincoln born within hours of each other, wowed audiences at the Jorgensen Center, Univ of CT, on the two giantsí birthday, Feb 12. Stay tuned for additional tour dates for this work in 2009-2010. |
"Four movements' worth of heat, histrionics and (literally) 'hollerin' that delighted in testing - and often shattering - conventional notions of how a concerto should go," said the Courier Journal, a Kentucky paper, describing the Feb 18th performance of Voodoo Violin Concerto No. 1 by DBR and the Louisville Orchestra. Don't miss the Mar 6 performance with the Tallahassee Youth Symphony Orchestra at The Moon. |
A Civil Rights Reader, a collection of DBR's five string quartets based upon the iconic figures of civil rights era (Malcom X, Martin Luther King Jr., Adam Clayton Powell, Maya Angelou and Rosa Parks), continues to tour the US during the Black History Month. The next stop will be Feb 26 at Saenger Theater in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. A Civil Rights Readerfeatures SQ Unit, the string quartet section of DBR & THE MISSION. |
