Image [South Bend, ID] Sept 8, 2006: DBR & THE MISSION at Notre Dame University

DBR & THE MISSION made headlines at the band's Indiana premiere of 24 Bits: Hip-Hop Studies and Etudes. Making the front page of the local paper's entertainment section, DBR was quoted describing his latest works of Hip-Hop Studies and Etudes as "post-eclectic." Another local independent newspaper, The Observer, gave the band a raving review:

"[DBR & THE MISSION] exuded energy and passion with every piece as the sound flowed off the stage to the audience. Each piece, while containing certain signature Roumain themes, still had wonderfully distinct modes, rhythms and moods that created an emotional ride through DBR's creative person. Adding to the experience was each band members' proficiency in the instrument, allowing for pleasant surprises and moments of interest in each piece. Lining the night were truly amazing and moving solos from each member, creating a sense of awe with each performer..."

Image Klap Ur Handz

Lark Quartet is releasing a new CD “Klap Ur Handz” on Endeavor Records on October 10, 2006. The CD is titled after one of the movements from DBR's newly commissioned string quartet “Parks” (named after Rosa Parks). In this work, the players have to clap, a feature he says was inspired by hip-hop rhythms but dates back to Cro-Magnon man. "There's something really communal about that," he says. Do not miss the group's CD release performance at Merkin Concert Hall (NYC) on November 19th, 8pm.

What people are saying

***** [5 stars] - Amazon.com review
Got a glimpse of his music on the national news and ordered a cd rather spontaneously - certainly no regret there - this music is original and the range is from soothing to "pulsing". I'm glad I found this artist.

***** [5 stars] - CDBaby.com review
Roumain's new disk, "pulsing" merges the exploration of pure sound with rich cultural references. It has its roots in the minimalism of the New York School, and the evolving history of black popular music. It unfolds abstract sound, and wraps it onto a rich musical tradition; a stunning package materializes. The violin performance of Filter is riveting.

Pulsing is for sale at all of DBR's live concerts, as well as these online retailers:
