OFFICIAL DBR NEWSLETTER - SEPTEMBER 2007

Can you believe it's September? Where did our summer go?

I just returned from a tour in Taiwan with Bill T. Jones and the miraculous dancers and musicians of his company. We left just before the storm, only to return to the rigors of the fall, and all of the work, travel, and experiences that go along with the changing of our collective attitudes, as well as our neighborhood trees. Someone once told me that change is good, necessary, and inevitable, and for me, this season is all about change, growth, and extension.

I'm playing a wonderful new six-string violin created by Richard Barbera; I've created a new solo show, One Loss Plus, commissioned by the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM); there's a new album in stores etudes4violin&electronix; a new work for DBR & THE MISSION and film, The Hudson River Meditations; and I'm working on my first opera, Makandal, with the writer Carl Hancock Rux and the visual artist Edouard Duval-Carrie.

I'm so excited to be able to tour and visit so many different places around the world. It's an honor to be able to share the music with you in so many different ways. I look forward to seeing where you live and if I get the chance, I hope to be able to sit under some of the trees in your neck of the woods!

Hoping to see you in person,
-DBR
